Geology of Arizona & the History of The Grand Canyon Presentation – Description
Let’s put it all together! Go to the https://sites.google.com/cgc.edu/geosciencedepartm…
Watch the talk at the top: Old Rocks, New Canyon. Submit a slide show answering the following questions:
Answer the following questions:
1. Where is your park located: Find a satellite image from Google Earth to show the location or a good quality map.
2. What is the geology of the Grand Canyon?
This includes:
2.1. Rock types. What types of rocks are there?
This refers to the rock family (igneous, metamorphic, or sedimentary) AND to specific names, such as basalt, marble, sandstone, etc. If there are salient minerals, include them. You may use a geologic map to show the distribution of the rocks.
2.2. Processes. What geologic processes are active in the park? (e.g., weathering, erosion, glacial processes, deposition, seismicity, volcanism, magmatism, mountain building, etc.) What key processes were active in the geologic past?
2.3. Geologic History. What is the geologic history of the park? Include a sequence of events, starting with the oldest event and concluding with the youngest. Make sure to mention the formation of the Canyon itself. Connect the types of rocks with the geologic processes and landscape. Thoroughly document the ages at which events occurred and rocks formed.
3. Conclusions: What is your conclusion? What is the value of geology for you?
