MargaretDuring adolescent life there are many changes that they undergo physically and mentally. This affects their way of living and how they interact with the outside world. According to Erickson development stage adolescent are in identify versus role of confusion ages 13-18 years. Here the teenager tries to often take different lifestyle like new style of dressing, hairstyle etc. It’s in this stage they also get worked out on how they could be accepted within their own group of choosing such a sport team. However, not all goes as planned (Treas et al, 2022). Some stressors that teenagers experience are bullying. Bullying is concerning among adolescent. According to CDC, (2021) “bullying is unwanted aggressive behavior by another youth who are not siblings or dating partners, that involves perceived power imbalance is repeated…” bullying inflict harm which can damage social, psychological or even education status. Some bullying goes around through social media and the bullies can remain anonymous giving them an opportunity to be crueler. Bullying can lead to depression and some teens may even commit suicide if they don’t get help or stop the bullie. Youths and adolescents who suffer bullying are at increased risk of having mental problems (CDC, 2021; Green & Falkner, 2018).Another stressor adolescent face is eating disorder which is characterized by changes in body image. Anorexia nervosa which is restricting food intakes required for energy requirements despite being underweight. Bulimia is characterized by binge eating followed by inappropriate mechanisms to remove the food such an induced vomiting or excessive exercises. Eating disorder requires medical and psychiatric intervention. The incident of eating disorder is high among adolescent girls compared to boys. Problems associated with eating disorder to a teenager who is still developing include, amenorrhea, bradycardia, low WBC, bone loss, infertility, electrolyte imbalances, decayed teeth or abdominal pain (Treas et al, 2022)Risk taking behaviors that adolescent take in dealing with the above mentioned problems may include getting involved in unprotected sex, use of substance such as alcohol or hard drugs, smoking or even suicide. Others may get involved in violence as they try to win back their identity. Adolescents will need support as they go through this life stressor, teachings about use of drugs and engaging in unprotected sex can cause many problems to their health. Stress the inconveniences of using cigarettes and the misinformation that smokeless tobacco may be good. Make referrals and cessations programs where they can get support. Help them get involved in community programs where they can join other teens experience same life challenges. Encourage them to communicate so they can be helped accordingly (Treas et al, 2022).
