GCC week 8 disc reply to Tonya C – Description
Evidence-based practice is different from research. EBP relies on research studies that have been performed and analyzed to ensure that the research supports the change in practice. The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) states that “we need research studies to prove if a practice really is the best practice” (AORN, 2020). Research involves going through studies and finding what is relevant to practice. Evidence supporting a change in practice is gathered by collecting and rating the best evidence gathered from studies, such as randomized controlled studies (AORN, 2020).Identifying a research project as an evidence-based intervention project is easy in perioperative nursing practice. Using AORN guidelines for best practice is the standard of care in perioperative nursing. Within each guideline for practice, five research studies that have been evaluated by the AORN nurses who author the guideline are used to support AORN’s recommended practice. The cited research studies are located in the references section in each practice recommendation. Additionally, each AORN guideline is supported by an evidence table on their website, enabling anyone who wishes to review the evidence supporting the practice (AORN, 2020). Research with scientific evidence and studies to back it up makes evidence-based practice. Knowledge creation in a nursing research project is a learning process to create and transfer knowledge through study, research, debates, or clinical activities through which sharing of tacit and explicit knowledge is accomplished (Hassanian et al., 2015).ReferencesAORN.
