GCC Potent Eulogy – Description
There’s an old saying, “An old man can see backward better than a young man can see forward.”
Some Last words of some well known people:
Friends applaud, the comedy is finished.
~~ Ludwig van Beethoven, composer, d. March 26, 1827
The last words of Queen Elizabeth I were, “All my possessions for a moment of time.”
I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have.
~~ Leonardo da Vinci, artist, d. 1519
I die hard but am not afraid to go.
~~ George Washington, US President, d. December 14, 1799
Stonewall Jackson said on his deathbed, “Let me cross the river and rest under the tree.”
John Belushi – Just don’t leave me alone.
Kurt Cobaine – It’s better to burn out than to fade away.
Let’s Roll! — Todd Beamer – Overheard on an open phone line just before attempting to regain control of the hijacked Flight 93 on 9/11
George Harrison — Love One Another.
What would you most regret not doing before you “rest under the tree?”
What can we learn from the old man, or the Queen or any of the others last words? How does writing your own eulogy sound?
How would your eulogy sound if you died today? “He had such promise.” “She wanted to be president, but…” “She dreamed of ____, too bad she died before she could do it.”
Eulogy: a speech or piece of writing that praises someone or something highly, typically someone who has just died. How would your perfect eulogy read? What would your legacy be? How many lives would you want to positively affect in your life? Could you say that you achieved the dreams you had when you were young?
I submit that nothing, absolutely NOTHING, is stopping you–but yourself!
Make a list right now of 10 things that you really want to do before you die. The items on the list could be as simple as “inspire one person” or as noble as “start a non-profit foundation.” How would it feel to leave this kind of mark before you go?
Imagine that you died today, what would you like to have read at your funeral?
Now write your own powerful eulogybased upon the list or just what you want people to say about you. Please make your eulogy at least two paragraphs in length, you deserve at least that.
