Inserting an intravenous (IV) line is a multistep process. Before attempting to find a suitable vein, a nurse must gather the appropriate materials (e.g., tourniquet, catheter, IV tubing). Before puncturing a patient’s vein, a nurse must first find one that is suitable. This process illustrates the project management principle of task dependencies. Each task in the process depends upon the previous one’s completion in order to begin, and you need to think through each step before you embark on the project of inserting the IV.
For this Assignment, you use the Oak Township Medical Center Case Study to construct a schedule in ProjectLibre. Then, based on your own professional experiences, you identify three potential areas of uncontrolled changes to project scope that could impact the triple constraint (cost, scope, and time) for this project.
- Review this week’s Learning Resources and media presentation on scheduling resources and activities.
- Review the project case study and the tasks and dependencies you identified in the WBS you created in this week’s Discussion.
- As a project manager, think about how you would sequence the tasks and dependencies for this project.
- Consider tasks and dependencies that might be modified to create the most time-efficient project schedule.
- Note: Do not get lost in the details. Do not identify every task and subtask. Break the activities down to no more than three levels. Your goal is to identify major tasks in the sequence in which they will be performed.
- Finally, think about three potential ways that this project could experience uncontrolled changes to project scope and what you may be able to do to prevent these issues.
Submit a new project plan file created in ProjectLibre for the Oak Township Medical Center Case Study. Develop a project schedule in which you complete the following:
- Identify activities and tasks.
- Sequence the project activities.
- Estimate and assign durations for each task.
- Establish relationships and dependencies between the tasks, including lead and lag time.
In a separate document, respond to the following in a 2- to 3-page paper:
- Justify how the tasks and their dependencies were determined to create the project schedule.
- Identify three potential ways that this project could experience uncontrolled changes to project scope, and explain how you would mitigate or prevent these potential types of expansion.
Be specific and include at least 4 references to scholarly resources.
Note: Do not submit the ProjectLibre file to the Plagiarism Tool. However, you must submit your paper to the Plagiarism Tool.
