INSTRUCTIONS
This project involves the application of the statistical analysis skills covered in the class assignments. You will be provided a dataset to manipulate and generate specific statistical products. These products will be incorporated into a single Word document, with a one-page description of what the data is displaying and any interpretations you may have.
NOTE:
You should complete this project in SPSS. Make sure to provide all the required items outlined below in the final product.
Remember the videos made available in Module 15 to assist in how to import, re-code and graph.
STEPS
Select one of the Excel datasets on violent crime in Florida ( violent-11.xls Download violent-11.xlsor VIOLENT-12.xls Download VIOLENT-12.xlsdownload) and create a file copy for you to work with. Upload it into SPSS for processing.
Clean the dataset by moving the variable titles out of the rows and into the category descriptions.
Recode the numeric variables as numeric and scale, and remove the FLORIDA case from the dataset.
Generate a descriptive statistics table displaying Aggravated Assault and Total Violent Crimes for this subset.
Filter the dataset by population greater than 200,000 and generate a descriptive statistics table displaying Aggravated Assault and Total Violent Crimes for this subset.
Reset the data and filter by population less than 50,000 and generate a descriptive statistics table displaying Aggravated Assault and Total Violent Crimes for this subset.
Reset the data and select the six most populous counties. Prepare stacked or clustered graphs displaying all crime statistics by county for this set. Make any edits or modifications to the display you desire.
Reset the data and select the six least populous counties. Prepare stacked or clustered graphs displaying all crime statistics by county for this set.
Make any edits or modifications to the display you desire.
Import all tables and graphs into Word. Be sure they are appropriately titled.
Prepare a one-page written description of what the data outputs are displaying with any personal observations or thoughts.
Submit as a SINGLE DOCUMENT (merge tables, graphs, and your text into one file) to this link
Be sure to remove any of the output history/directions from your final document if using SPSS!
Submit your completed project on violent crime in Florida to this assignment link. Be sure to review the directions fully before preparing and submitting the project. Use the data posted in the crime data folder provided.
SUBMIT YOUR ENTIRE PROJECT IN ONE WORD DOCUMENT WITH NO SCREEN GRABS! Failure to submit the project correctly will result in the loss of 10 points from your project grade.
