Explaining Its Significance and Drawing Connections Worksheet – Description
Below are eight historical identifications, drawn from our lectures and the reading. Choose six of them to write about. (Leave the other two blank.) You will define each term and place it in historical context, explaining its significance and drawing connections to other material we have studied in class as well as highlighting how each term develops the major themes of the course. You will have 80 minutes to complete the exam, and you may take it at during any 80-minute period from noon on Wednesday until noon on Friday.
Since you have 80 minutes, so you should spend no more than 10 minutes on each ID. Each response should be at least 3-5 sentences and should define the term (who, what, when, where, why, how) and then explain why it’s significant (i.e. why we should care.) Draw connections between times and locations, demonstrate change over time, and assess both short- and long-term causes and effects. Each ID is worth 10 points.
You may want to look at this sample ID response before you write your own.
Remember, only do six of the following IDs. Leave the other two answers blank.
Xianjian
Hottentot Venus
social Darwinism
heliocentrism
Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen
Columbian Exchange
means of production
“Second flowering of Islam”
