Argumentative Paper Instructions
For your Argumentative Paper, ensure to follow all the instructions below; otherwise, your grade will negatively be affected.
1. Type of essay: Argumentative
2. Topic: Is the death penalty a just punishment?
3. Failure to use the topic will result in a zero (0) as your grade for this assignment.
4. You must choose a clear position (in favor) of the topic/issue you chose and present a sound argument to support your stance.
5. This paper MUST include: Cover page (1 page); Introduction, Body, Counterargument, and Conclusion (2-3 pages); References on a separate page (1-2 pages) with at least five (5) sources. It must not be less than 700 words.
6. Format: APA, 7th Edition
7. Font: Times New Roman, 12 point
8. The Thesis Statement must be clear and at the end of the introductory paragraph. It also must contain the 3 sub points/reasons that will be developed in the body paragraphs to support your claim.
E.g. Americans should reduce the regular consumption of fast food because it leads to health issues, such as diabetes (sub point 1), heart disease (sub point 2), and some cancers (sub point 3).
9. The supporting paragraphs must include a topic sentence each and enough research evidence (i.e. facts, statistics, expert opinions, etc.) to support the claim.
10. The body of the paper must have 1 counterargument paragraph with 2 opposing views and with effective refutations with evidence for each opposing view.
11. Documentation: You must use at least five (5) sources from reliable databases; ProQuest Central in LIRN is highly recommended.

12. There must be 1-2 in text citations in each of the body paragraphs and in the counterargument.
*Do NOT use Wikipedia, Infoplease, Answers.com, WebMd, Psychology Today as a source.
13. You must use Level-1 heading (Centered, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase) for the introductory and conclusion paragraphs; for each of the body paragraphs, use Level-2 heading (Flush Left, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase Heading).
