ENC 1102 UCF English Different Types of Narratives Paper – Description
Assignment Overview
This week, you began thinking about the genre you plan to research. You also learned how researchers explore existing scholarly conversations and develop research questions. Now, you must decide what genre you would like to study as well as brainstorm potential research questions you are interested in exploring around that genre.
Before submitting this process work, you must (1) identify which genre you are interested in most and (2) find 3-4 examples of this genre. From here, you will do an initial analysis to develop some potential research questions.
For this assignment, please do the following:
First, return to the Genre Identification & Analysis reading response. Based on this assignment, assess whether you should move forward with your chosen genre. If you choose to move forward, simply collect additional samples of that genre from that community. If you choose not to move forward, you need to think carefully about genres that you could study. Use my comments to guide your decision making.
Get all your genre samples out in front of you. Then work through the questions on the Genre Analysis worksheet for the genre(s) you’ve collected. You should have at least 2-3 samples of that genre for a real, legitimate genre analysis. Write out your answer to each of the analysis questions to get an initial understanding of your chosen genre.
The worksheet asks you to draft questions that your research can answer. Write 2-3 tentative research questions to explore this semester. You should develop a research question that asks “how” some element of the genre is working or “why” something is happening the way that it is.
