EDL 822 GCU Integrating Faith and Learning GCUs Mission Discussion – Description

Integration of Faith and Learning – GCU Mission Statement – Transformative Leaders
GCU’s identity and mission are deeply rooted in a singular foundation of faith which provides a shared basis for the entire university. I think that is important that as students we often revisit the Mission Statement and examine how that applies in our lives and education.
GCU revised our Mission Statement in 2022 to the following –
GCU is a missional, Christ-centered university with an innovative and adaptive spirit that addresses the world’s deep needs by cultivating compassionate Christian community, empowering free and virtuous action, and serving others in ways that promote human flourishing.
Through academic excellence, the university equips students with knowledge of the Christian worldview, instilling in them a sense of purpose and vocational calling that enable them to be innovative thinkers, effective communicators, global contributors, and transformative leaders who change their communities by placing the interests of others before their own.
Last week we discussed the human flourishing aspect. This week, I think it is fitting if we discuss becoming “transformative leaders who change their communities by placing the interests of others before their own”. I’m not going to lie, this is HARD.
How are you working to incorporate this into your life? What examples do you have of leaders who have inspired or mentored you?
Dr. Davis
