Grading Rubric – things I look for when grading your discussion

Explain in detail and include textbook page numbers and sources used.  Your answer should not be in the form of one line. Include enough details for me and your classmates to fully understand.

Be clear and organized in your writing.  Use the section headings to organize your discussion paper.  Do not write your discussion response as one long run on paragraph.

Write a great discussion paper.  In this discussion assignment you are asked to personally reflect and apply your psychology knowledge to everyday life. This assignment is worth significant grade points so don’t wait until the day it is due. As you read the chapters and work through the study guide, begin drafting the discussion sections.  This assignment can be fun and easy because you get to choose the things that you enjoyed reading about and stood out to you.

Do not copy or take short cuts.   Do not simply cut and paste sentences from the internet, or from classmates. Do your own work and explain your work.  Reference any sources used.

Respond to classmates.  Reply to at least two classmate’s discussion papers. When replying to a classmate, include their first name and your first name.   Your reply should be more than a couple of lines.  Reading and replying to classmates is an opportunity to share and exchange psychological knowledge.  Think of replies to classmates like having a conversation about psychology.

To submit your discussion post in canvas: Scroll down to the bottom of the assignment instructions and Click reply to this assignment instructions.  A blank text box will open.  You can type or copy your discussion post into the text box.  First draft your discussion in a word document and then copy to blank textbox. You may need to do some format edits after you copy.  Click submit or “post reply”, your discussion is submitted and all students in the class will be able to read your post.

SECTION 1 ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

SECTION 1:  related to MODULE 4 – refer to Ch. 9 Lifespan; Ch. 12 Social Psychology readings

Developmental theories.  Read about Jean Piaget’s theory on Cognitive Development, and Erik Erikson’s theory on Psychosocial Development.  These theories reveal how children’s understanding about themselves and their environment change as they grow and move through different developmental stages.  For example, movies, toys, games and books for children and adolescents include guidance about whether the item is ‘age appropriate’.  Have you ever wondered what that means?  Or have you ever wondered why a two-year-old wants to pour the juice on their own and that it might be important to let them try.  Developmental theories help us understand that our early experiences shape and influence us throughout our life.

There are 3 parts to this assignment, Part A, Part B, Part C.

Explain in detail, include text page number/or heading or any sources used.
