CSUN Cultural Studies Incorporation of Philosophical Writings Essay – Description
Pretend you are an archeological scholar from a distant plant visiting Earth. You know nothing about the Human species and, when you arrive, there are no human beings left, only their artifacts (painting. sculpture, philosophy, plays, poetry, etc.). Based on your consideration of these artifacts, what conclusions can you draw about “humanity” to report back to your home planet? What do these artifacts reveal about these “beings” in terms of their concerns and their values, what they prized or feared, how they saw themselves and the evolving and changing aspect of their self-view and basic nature? You should focus only on the artifacts of the period studied-Greek through Early Christian/Byzantine-and cite specific works from this period that supports your conclusions about the nature, aspirations, achievements of these creatures called “Human Beings.”
