CSU Integrating Social Skills Program in Schools Paper – Description
Students with emotional and behavioral disorders often do not have the social skills needed to adequately function in society and a number of social skills programs are available for teachers. Problem-solving strategies and self-determination skills are important components of any social skills program. Research suggests that it is important to integrate social skills into the general education curriculum.
This assignment is as follows:
You want to implement a social skills program in your school, but your principal values academics and does not want any supplemental program taking away academic time.
Explain how you would convince the principal of the value of implementing a social skills program and the importance of self-determination in his school.
Briefly describe a social skills program you would recommend implementing within your current school and why you believe this will be effective. You may reference the commercially prepared curricula described in the text but be sure and indicate at least 3 instructional strategies you would use as well as at least 3 social skill areas or self-determination skills that you believe to be the most important.
Indicate what you might do to ensure your social skills curriculum was culturally responsive and includes a problem-solving component.
