Communication Is Essential for Our Daily Life Discussion – Description

Communication is essential for our daily life we have verbal communication where we speak to each other using words, and we have hand gestures such as sign language or a simple wave of the hand to say hello or goodbye. We also have our facial expressions and I think I have mastered those facial expressions pretty well. I have no filter when it comes to my facial expressions especially when I’m mad or upset about something. My face says it before my words say anything. I went to the subway earlier and wrote what I and my children wanted down on a piece of paper and handed it to the woman making the sandwiches. She looked utterly confused at first but I gestured my hand to my mouth and pointed at my lips and then shook my fingers and she seemed to understand and went about making my subs. At first, I felt awkward and embarrassed but then my son made it hilarious by saying my mom can not talk because she’s in trouble with her teacher but do not put mayo on her sub I read it will make her fat. The lady at Subway found my son very funny. Even though he completely misunderstood what I was doing at least he lightened the mood making this an enjoyable assignment. Communication can be very difficult if you have behavioral disorders or developmental disabilities these individuals will misinterpret things and this can cause them to become overstimulated quickly and say and do things out of character for them. They can feel awkward and afraid during social situations that normally do not present themselves til elementary school. (Hardman & Egan & Drew, 2015) Usually between the ages of 5 and 6 is when you can identify these intellectual or developmental delays that can hinder a student’s academic and social communication. Children on the autism spectrum have social communication and social interaction skills disorders that make it difficult to concentrate in school and to make friends. Children with ASD often finds it difficult to process or understand vocal and facial emotion in others. ( Stewart & McAdam & Ota & Peppe & Cleland, 2013)
