There are various assessments for determining if you have an Age-Friendly community. However, like many tools associated with research or public health, there can be considerable costs associated.
For example, the National Research Centre Inc has a tool: Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults that costs more than a lot of people or organizations would have the budget for.

A lot of reports also tend to indicate that they completed a survey or focus group with various older adults to determine the needs of the population and relate that to an evaluation of how age-friendly their communities are. A scoping review conducted by Dellamora et al. (2015) evaluated 25 identified assessment tools for determining age-friendliness and noted that they varied greatly in such things as topics, number of questions, rigor, and availability. It is interesting to note that of the tools that Dellamora et al. (2015) included in their study for evaluation, only two were found within the academic literature.
Complete section 1 (Outdoor Spaces and Buildings) and section 3 (Housing) from the Checklist of Age-Friendly Features provided below produced by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) (http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/seniors-aines/alt-formats/pdf/publications/public/healthy-sante/age_friendly_rural/AFRRC_en.pdf). You can do this for a city that you live in or one with which you are familiar. Little Rock Arkansas I want you to ask one older adult* (at least 55 years of age or older) to complete this checklist as well as yourself. (Yourself: I am a Football player for the University of Windsor, I am 23 years old, I am a master’s student, I live in Windsor Ontario). Atleast complete your assessment prior to asking the older adult. Note – it is important that you and the older adult are completing the assessment for the same location (which can be anywhere in the world, does not need to be Windsor, ON specific). Second Note – each group member should be completing this task.
* If it is not possible to ask an individual 55 years of age or older to participate, please try to ask someone who is a different age than you to try and allow for different perspectives to emerge.
Write two pages on the comparison of the findings. Based on your findings, discuss aspects of the physical environment and housing as they are related to age-friendly communities. This may include features that promote age-friendliness, those that need to be modified, and recommendations in general. Also comment on the checklist as a valid way to assess age-friendliness for these two domains. Please include the assessment in the appendix.
Your assignment should be no longer than two pages.
Note: a title page for the individual weekly assignment is not necessary.
Appendix: can be hand written assessment form used as part of the assignment.
