CCJ 3032 FSU Focus on Media Reporting of Stranger Danger Discussion – Question Description
I’m working on a criminal justice discussion question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Part 1 (Chapter 3)
Give an example where you have been impacted by media moral panic reporting – it can be terrorism threat warnings, active mass shooting reporting, missing/abducted children, carjacking etc., whatever the media has sensationalized that in turn caused anxiety/concern/panic for yourself, family, friends or a community, area of our country or society. What can be done to curtail this phenomenon? Support your response with academic citation(s)/reference(s).
Part 2 (Chapter 4)
Discuss the focus on media reporting of stranger danger to children as compared to the higher likelihood that children are more frequently assaulted, injured or killed by family members or someone they know then a stranger. Why does this media prioritize this approach? Support your response with academic citation(s)/reference(s).
Part 3: What should the media do about crimes against children?
This part is forward leaning, come up with one or more approaches the media should take to target crimes against children. (*You have to give this part independent thought and do some research to support your answer) Support your response with academic citation(s)/reference(s).
