Read the Purdue Online Writing Lab’s “Logical Fallacies” webpageLinks to an external site.Watch the following two videos related to logical reasoning:”What is an ArgumentLinks to an external site.” YouTube Video”Five Fallacies | Idea Channel | PBS Digital StudiosLinks to an external site.” YouTube VideoChoose one of the logical fallacies that are discussed in either the PBS video and/or the Purdue reading and write an example for the logical fallacy you’ve selected (preferably in politics but other realms work, too). This example can be your own original example, or you can provide reference to where you encountered the example out in the real world (e.g. a debate between two or more political candidates, in a political news article, etc.). For example: Ad Hominem: Mayor Santel is regularly seen drinking Coca-Cola during her press conferences; her proposed soda tax will never work in getting city residents to consume fewer sugary beverages! Respond to one of the three prompts below:Were you already familiar with any of the logical fallacies discussed in the Purdue webpage and PBS YouTube video? If so, which ones and where did you learn about them (e.g. in a class or outside of school)? Did any of the logical fallacies stick out to you as particularly helpful to know about to more effectively participate in discussions about politics? Explain your answer providing at least one specific example.Do you ever (or did you ever used to) commit any of the logical fallacies discussed in the Purdue webpage and/or in the PBS YouTube video? If so, which ones? What are some ways you can point out logical fallacies to others in a way that is more likely to be well-received (e.g. without coming off as pedantic, and/or condescending)? Explain your answer. How does building logical reasoning skills (and getting better at spotting logical fallacies) help you in your ability to engage politically? What about in school, and/or in life, in general? Explain your answer providing at least one specific example.
