BUS ADM 600 UWM Campbell Soup Company Analysis – Description

You are required to conduct a strategic analysis of a publicly-traded company and submit a paper summarizing your analysis of the company. The strategic analysis assignment aims to help you hone your research, analytical, and presentation skills. Once you have gathered a significant body of data, you must apply the Porter’s Forces framework (using all 6 forces) you have learned and form an opinion about the company’s performance and sustainability based on the evidence you found. The Industry Analysis and Competitive Advantage readings include detail on Porter’s framework that you will use to analyze the company. After researching the company and forming opinions on its future success, you must provide recommendations on its viability as a potential investment and whether you would want to work for it. Key points from your research must support your recommendation.

Grading on this component will be approximately distributed as 40% for the depth and comprehensiveness of the research you conducted, 40% for the quality of your analyses and recommendations, and 20% for the quality of your writing.

An acceptable analysis will incorporate several (5-10) business articles (WSJ, Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes, Fortune, etc.), as well as the company’s financial statements and research on its competitors. The UWM and local libraries provide access to a range of business newspapers and periodicals, including online. Please note: press releases and general earnings announcements are not considered a good source for your research. Financial statements (10-K or 10-Q)  for U.S. publicly traded companies are available at: http://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch…Links to an external site.. The Wall Street Journal, along with some other major business sources, provides an online search for company information, including U.S. and non-U.S. companies. Make sure to include data and information from the company’s most recent annual and quarterly reports, as well as some recent business articles.

Your analysis and recommendations should not exceed 5 pages (single or double-spaced). You can include any number of appendix pages with supporting data or charts. Please base your recommendations on factual information, including key data, tables, and charts you used when analyzing the company. You must include a page at the end of your paper that lists the sources you used for your research.  This can be a list of links to the sources or a list of the Title, Date, and Source of the materials.

Examples of information (this does not mean you need to have all the items in the list below) that could facilitate your analysis of the company and provide factual support for your recommendations:

• Firm performance  – i.e. earnings, sales, ROA, ROE, P/E, the stock price (feel free to add to these) – remember to investigate firm performance both across time (try to discern a trend) and relative to its competitors (see how well the firm does relative to its rivals)

• Market share

• Vision & mission

• Five forces analysis

• Competitive analysis

• Information about competitive moves

• Business Strategy

• Most important corporate divisions (industries in which the company operates)

• Which corporate divisions generate the most revenues/profits for the firm?

• International operations, International Strategy

• Which are the most important domestic/international markets for the firm?

• Employee ratings (i.e. Glassdoor, etc.)

The paper must include the following:

• A brief introduction of the company you are analyzing, including the industry it is in.

• A section for the industry analysis (including all six forces from Porter’s model)

• Your answer to the question of whether this company would be a good investment, with analysis to support your answer.

• Your answer to the question of whether you would want to work for the company, with analysis to support your answer.

• A conclusion that summarizes your analysis of the company and its position in its industry.
