Response 1.) Kimberly
If as an Airbnb executive, I would respond to the following question when approached: “Regrettably, we have had a disturbance of this magnitude happen within one of our establishments. As a whole, we are working with local officials and other persons within the company to ensure that our clients are kept safe and protected during their stay with us. Our goal is to ensure that a situation like this does not happen again. We only want the best and will have the best security and systems to protect our clients and their experience. We are now working with local authorities and the victim and will make amends for this situation”.
We are using direct contact and are open to assistance, and any information that will lead to an arrest to have the person/persons involved brought to justice so that nothing of this sort will happen again. We ask for total assistance with this incident and will do everything possible to ensure the safety and well-being of the clients and the staff.

If I were responding to this question from the press as an Airbnb Executive, it would be crucial to manage the content of my message carefully. My response would be as follows:
Our thoughts and prayers are with the teenager who was the victim of a terrible attack on one of our Airbnb properties. Ensuring the safety of all who use our facilities is our top priority, and we take this unfortunate event very seriously. This unexpected incident profoundly saddens us. This incident occurred despite having safety measures in place, but we took immediate corrective action to prevent it from happening again. We are currently working closely with law enforcement as they investigate the matter.
We are fully committed to safeguarding our Airbnb guests at all times. To this end, we have introduced new safety protocols to assist guests with any safety concerns or questions. Moreover, we are making courtesy officers available at each location to support our guests. We are genuinely sorry for what happened and will do everything in our power to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Response 3.) Leslie
Airbnb has demonstrated its commitment to guest safety by implementing numerous preventive measures. The Airbnb Host Guarantee and Airbnb Neighborhood Support Line demonstrate their dedication to the safety of their guests. These measures are intended to promote responsible hosting and provide a safer environment for site visitors. The rapid expansion of Airbnb and its commitment to visitor safety are both complex and nuanced matters. Although it may be challenging to maintain high safety standards during periods of rapid expansion, Airbnb has taken several measures to make its guests feel more secure. Examples include secure payment methods, customer service, and feedback from hosts and guests.

Response 4.) Jayne
Is Airbnb being proactive enough in its safety efforts?
Airbnb is not being proactive enough in its safety efforts regarding the customer or the user. According to the “Terms of Service and User Liability Agreement (O’Rourke 2019), Because the company can not streamline a universal liability agreement globally, the burden is placed on the user. Who is the user? Users are hosts that list their homes or apartment on an online platform.
Is the business growing too fast to properly protect guests?
In my opinion, the company is growing too fast to protect their guest adequately. Airbnb’s primary goal appears to remain the third fastest growing company, not customer safety or satisfaction.
Response 5.) Carter
Question 1
The central business problem, in this case, relates to adequately securing properties around the world with a small staff and without actually owning the properties. Given the subtitle of the case, “Scaling Safety with Rapid Growth,” the author attributes the safety issues to the organization’s rapid growth (O’ Rourke, 2019, p. 12).
Question 2
The primary issue for Airbnb is that commission rates need to be as low as possible to dissuade customers from conducting transactions with hosts directly (O’Rourke, 2019, p. 14). If increasing security for guests and hosts drastically increases Airbnb’s costs, then the organization’s profitability could be threatened.

Response 6.) Tomeka
What is the central business problem in this case? Does that problem pose a threat to the profitability or continued existence of the company?
Airbnb’s central business problem surrounds trust and ethical concerns. As we may know, it is much harder to build confidence after failures of mistrust. In this case, Airbnb has had continuous unethical things happen that were reported by visitors that were either not followed up on or ignored. Then the situation of having a teenager sexually assaulted on premises, I’m sure, carries the most weight of all the other things reported on their negligence list.
Although Airbnb has other things to attract customers to make the business less hated, some things might make it harder for the company to fix, such as the sexual assault case. Situations like this could easily pose a threat to the business and to the communities it serves.

Response 7.) Eric
The key stakeholders will be guests, hosts, the company, and employees/shareholders. Guests are one of the primary stakeholders who rely on Airbnb’s platform for safe and enjoyable accommodations. Their safety and well-being are at stake in this case. They expect Airbnb to provide a secure environment and protect them from harm or incidents during their stay. Hosts who list their properties on Airbnb also have a stake in this matter. They depend on the platform to attract guests and generate income. Incidents affecting guest safety can lead to a loss of trust in the platform, potentially impacting bookings and the financial viability of hosts’ businesses. Airbnb itself is a stakeholder in this situation. The company’s reputation, brand image, and financial performance are at stake. Ensuring guest safety is essential to maintain and growing its user base, generate revenue, and sustain profitability. Failing to address safety concerns can have long-term implications for Airbnb’s success and even its existence as a company. Employees of Airbnb and its shareholders also have a stake in this issue. The company’s ability to manage safety effectively impacts employee morale and job security. Airbnb’s reputation and financial performance can also affect shareholder investments and returns, which can be affected by safety incidents.
Interested observers with no genuine stake in the outcome, such as competitors or rival companies, may closely observe how Airbnb handles safety concerns. Any negative impact on Airbnb’s reputation and user trust could allow competitors to attract guests and gain market share.
Response 8.) Michael
Key stakeholders include guests, hosts, Airbnb executives, Airbnb employees, and Airbnb stockholders. The hosts are interested in using their real estate property to earn income through rental opportunities. They risk having their property damaged. Guests are looking for a convenient way to find a property or room to rent in a desirable location. They risk being disappointed with the property or host. Airbnb executives, employees, and stockholders have a responsibility to deliver a reliable service that attracts a growing selection of host properties. People that live in adjacent properties to these Airbnb properties are interested observers. If the guests are loud and disruptive it can cause problems for these neighbors. The general public is an interested observer because they are comparing this service to alternatives, like travel agencies and hotels.
