INSTRUCTIONS: Final Paper (Persuasive/ Argumentative):
Write a persuasive or argumentative paper about a controversial topic, that has opposing viewpoints. Your paper should inform the reader about the topic, but it should also try to convince the reader to take the same position that you are taking concerning the topic (or to believe about the topic in the same way that you do). Both the topic and your position about the topic should be clearly stated in the thesis statement, which should be the last sentence of your introduction. Your paper should follow a formal structure. It should include an interesting introduction with a hook (to catch the reader’s interest), a thesis statement that states the topic and your position on the topic (the last sentence of the introduction), body paragraphs that include details, facts, citation, or numbers and figures (from the research you have conducted) that support your position on the topic and develop the thesis of the paper, and finally, a conclusion that wraps things up and ties up loose ends. You should use at least two sources to support and develop your arguments. The sources can be in the form of a scholarly article, an article in a journal or newspaper, a chapter or book written about the topic, surveys or research, goverment or educational websites (depending on your topic. You should Not use Wikepedia as a source. Please remember to cite all sources, using the MLA Format , and to include a Works Cited Page. Remember that this paper will be the capstone project for this class. Students must accurately and compellingly incorporate both primary and secondary research materials into the paper using MLA format. The course cannotbe passed unless this paper is submitted.
