Bending Moments Horizontal Displacement and Support Reaction Calculations – Description
The two-story frame in the figure is under the effect of horizontal (earthquake) loads PX3 and PX5. It is known that the bending moment at the midpoints of beams 3-4 and 5-6 is 0 (zero) for the given system and loading. Accordingly;
a) Calculate the bending moments at the ends of the 3-4 beam.
b) Calculate the horizontal displacement (ΔX6) at point 6.
c) Calculate the horizontal support reaction (R2x) at support 2.
NOTE: Only the EI (bending) rigidity will be considered in the displacement calculation.
EI=10,000tm
PX5=48 L= 10 H=8
