On page 164 of the HHS Pink Book, you see a case study about benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) along with step by step instructions for how to determine the readability level of a publication. For this discussion post, find a health promotion piece online and complete the SMOG assessment. Your post should be a minimum of 250 words and calculate the SMOG reading grade level as detailed in the readings this week. You should show your calculations at the bottom of your post. You may choose to look at health nonprofits (the American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, Fuel Up to Play 60), government organizations (the CDC, ADPH), or healthcare organizations (universities, hospitals, specialists, primary care physicians) for campaigns, but feel free to scope beyond this list. Just make sure that your campaign is health-focused and reference appropriately (using MLA, APA, or Chicago style) including a link. However, it is recommended that you find a topic you are not deeply familiar with (although some preexisting knowledge is okay). Following the analysis, include the following information: Were there words in the campaign that you were unfamiliar with?Did the campaign do an acceptable job of defining necessary terms?What questions were you left with (minimum of 3) about this health topic after reading through this publication?On a scale of 1-10, how knowledgeable do you feel about this topic now? 1 should be “I know nothing beyond the name” and 10 should be “I learned as much as I would in medical school.” I do not expect anyone to rank these at a 1 or a 10, so justify why you chose your answer.
