AU Psychology Analytical Practical & Creative Intelligence Discussion – Description
Multiple intelligence, as theorized by Howard Gardner, helps explain the variation in natural abilities and interests among us. But as you have learned, our traditional intelligence tests, such as the Standford-Binet, only evaluate a few of the types of intelligence, leaving those of us who are considered “non-traditional learners” to be negatively labeled and stifled in our educational exploration. This can lead some individuals disillusioned and left wondering if the career/job they are in is really the best they can do to fulfill their potential.
ASSIGNMENT
In this discussion, you will be exploring your intelligence and identifying your strengths among the eight types identified by Dr. Gardner.
Take the Multiple Intelligence Survey (as adapted by Walter McKenzie, 1999) Multiple Intelligences Inventory
For your discussion post:
Select your top three types of intelligence and define each of them in your own words
Discuss if these surprised you or not – why?
Identify two or three careers that are related to those types of intelligence (sources required for support)
You will respond to at least ONE (1) of your peers:
Reflect on their selections and their why – did you have similarities? Differences?
Comment on their career selections and how well it connects with the types of intelligence:
My top 3 intelligences were Existential, Kinesthetic and Intrapersonal. The only one that surprised me was kinesthetic, I have done sports in the past and while I know that kinesthetic doesn’t only refer to sports, I don’t relate much to the other features such as being talkative or working with a team, it’s true that when I’m in a team I try to give them my best version so I don’t disappoint anyone, however group activities isn’t something I enjoy much, however the other 2 intelligences made a lot of sense. The jobs that are recommended for people with an existential intelligence include pastor, meditation instructor, yoga instructor, etc. I will admit that I enjoy participating in activities such as meditating and doing yoga, yet I wouldn’t follow it as a career path. Some of the jobs recommended for people with kinesthetic intelligence include being an athlete, dancer, mechanic, etc. a lot of jobs that have to either do with performing or involve physical activity, as a young kid I liked sports, but never enough to follow it as a career, most of the suggestions for kinesthetic intelligence I wouldn’t find myself doing on a daily basis. Lastly, for intrapersonal intelligence some of the recommended career paths are psychologist, philosopher, writer, etc. with this one there are a lot more options I already enjoy doing in my free time, such as learning about psychology and even writing. For most of the suggestions I couldn’t find anything that caught my attention, until the intrapersonal intelligence suggestions, where there were plenty I liked.
