Ashford University Issues and Challenges for Release and Reintegration Discussion – Description
PART 1
Issues and Challenges for Release and Reintegration [WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 1, 2, 5, 6]
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 9 and 10 in your Stojkovic and Lovell (2019) textbook and the article Private Prisons: Myths, Realities & Educational Opportunities for Inmates. You may also wish to consider some of the recommended resources for this week.
Your initial post should consist of at least 250 words and address the following elements:
Explain how “mandatory release” and “supervised release” relate to social justice and criminal justice objectives.
Discuss institutional goals that may be met by releasing incarcerated persons early to serve their remaining sentences within society.
It has been argued that privatizing corrections—paying private companies to efficiently run prisons and jails—would save the government money. Discuss pros and cons for privatizing corrections. In addition, relate the pros and cons of privatization to at least one issue for the future of corrections.
Support your claims with examples from any required material or other scholarly resources and properly cite any references.
PART 2
Twitter Forum: Issues for Release and Reintegration [WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 2, 3]
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review a state’s department of corrections Twitter You can consider any of the Twitter pages for state correctional departments listed in the Recommended Resources this week, or you can do an Internet search to locate a specific state’s department of corrections Twitter page. The Twitter page must be the official account of that state department of corrections. For example, you could explore Tweets from one of the Twitter pages listed in the resource list for Week 2, or you could review the Twitter page for a state’s department of corrections of your choosing. Select a Tweet and explain how the content relates to a social justice issue and a criminal justice issue for release from incarceration and/or for reintegration after correctional supervision.
