ARU Environmental Health and Safety Manager Discussion – Description
please respond to savanna with. 175 words Hello classmates! My name is Savanna and I am an Environmental Health and Safety Manager for a large construction company in Williamsburg, VA. I am just starting out in my role and I hope to grow as a professional and take a more influential position with my company in the coming years. I was an army and civilian medic before taking this position so public health and safety is truly a passion of mine. I want to continue to contribute to the welfare of those around me! As per the assigned texts, there are many different kinds of environmental technologies. Some that I have recently been a part of the construction for are stormwater channels along roadways and retention ponds. Also, along the road where my neighborhood is, there is a vertical sound barrier to help block out roadway traffic since our housing complex is so close to the main road and a hospital. I never realized exactly what that wall was for until now. There are many elderly people in my neighborhood and, across the street, a lot of sick people in the hospital who need to focus on recovery, so I think the sound barriers do more than most give credit for. I am surely grateful. As far as the pond we put in at another job location of mine, I think that it does keep the connected body of water from flooding; we are working on a college campus and the larger pond that it drains into is not too far away so flooding would surely be a problem for nearby wildlife and our everyday operations as humans. We did have to dig the pond out recently to expand it, which included draining the entire thing. There were many turtles and other creatures that had to find a new place to go which was unfortunate; hopefully some of them found their way back after the pond was completed. It is so neat to be able to recognize these different technologies after reading about them in our units; I think I am going to gain a lot of knowledge from this class!
