Unit Aims
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of the processes involved in the
management of human and financial resources. The unit explores recruitment, and the
management and development of people in the health and social care workplace.
Key financial concepts and tools used by managers in health and social care organisations
are also looked at.

Instructions
You are required prepare a business report for Health Care Managers to ensure they
understand the value of financial awareness and the different sources of finance that are
available in managing health and social care organisations.
For research, you should review the published accounts of BUPA PLC, which can be
downloaded from https://www.bupa.com/corporate/our-performance
Your report should include the following:
• An evaluation of the financial statements of BUPA PLC. You should evaluate the
structure, format and requirements of their published accounts.
• An analysis of the role of financial information in decision making.
• An explanation, showing the key differences, between long and short term business
finance needs for health and social care organisations.
• An explanation of sources of finance available to health and social care organisations,
such BUPA PLC.
• An evaluation of the implications of using each of the sources of finance identified.
• Using the BUPA PLC budgetary information, interpret their budget in relation to service
provision.
• Evaluate capital expenditures and investment projects using different investment
appraisal techniques.
• Make recommendations for financial management for BUPA PLC.
