Critical Reflective Essay
In this essay you will reflect on your learning in conducting the interview, identifying your use of strength-based, and anti-oppressive practice approach and communication skills.
Your essay should include:
1. A description of your experience in the role of social worker in the skills development video. This should include the key issues raised by the client and your responses using anti-oppressive, strength-based approaches – solution focused or narrative.
2. Demonstration of the foundational listening and communication skills including the ability to establish a collaborative working relationship with the client, establish rapport, establish inclusive boundary setting, demonstrate empathy, respond to diversity and context and develop a shared understanding of the client’s goals.
3. Critique your use of anti-oppressive, strength-based approaches (solution focused or narrative), in this scenario. This should include examples of how you applied them, how appropriate you felt the application of these approaches were and how, from your perspective the client responded. Refer to the literature in your answer.
4. Critically reflect on your own learnings, development and how this may inform your further practice.
