Joliet Catholic Academy Directing Casting Fences Paper – Description

Since a primary job of the director is to cast a production, list actors that you would cast in the ideal stage production of Fences. You may include pictures in the submission but you may not use the actors in either of the major Broadway productions. Select appropriate actors for: Troy, Rose, Cory and Gabriel and make sure you explain why the actors you chose make sense for your production. Here are a few factors:*The actors must be age appropriate, in the present. Every actor should be within 5 years of the character the are portraying (their ages are in the script). Do not cast an 80 year old actor as Troy and then say “they’re 80 now, but when they were in their 50s…” or “they are older but I think they can pull off the correct age.” Actors don’t have to be the exact age as their character in “real life”, but they should be within a few years for this assignment. Cory is a teenager so don’t cast an actor that is 25 years old. Remember that just because an actor falls in that age window doesn’t mean that they are right for the role.*You must justify each pick beyond the appropriate race and age. Take the physical description of the character into account (if mentioned in the script) and previous experience.
