Old School Interlingual Translation Essay – Description
I call this the “old-school interlingual translation” option. Unless otherwise decided, you should choose a literary text that has already been translated, prose or poetry. This may seem odd, but I promise you, it makes your job easier only marginally. Choose a length you can handle. I would say that any more 2,500 words in English translation is probably too much at this point, but use your judgment. You will write a 6-page introduction (about 1,500 words) to accompany your translation, where you will explain your philosophy as a translator in a theoretically aware fashion; contextualize your selection; and explain why it’s worth translating (not necessarily in that order). You will also include a bibliography of translation tools and any other sources you may have consulted (including other translation[s], which I will use in my assessment of yours).
